The Anschutz Collection is an outcome of the efforts made over 50 years by the Anschutz family, and the credit goes to businessman, Philip Anschutz, who is in oil, real estate and telecommunications. A lover of art, he chose this passion of his to race cars or racehorses. And to promote American Idealism he toured widely to 10 different countries, including the former Soviet Union.

In de toegevoegde begeleidende brochure schrijft Robert-Jones: "Wij zijn veel verschuldigd aan de kunstenaars die de ontdekkingsreizigers, de indiaanse gidsen en de bergbewoners vergezelden om het echte oude Westen levendig en kleurrijk vast te leggen. Dit oude, onbekende, indiaanse Westen werd in zeer korte tijd gekoloniseerd. Negentig jaar na de aankoop van Louisiana behoorden de indiaanse buffeljagers, de trek naar het Westen dwars doorheen het land, de goudzoekers in Californië en de oorlog tussen cowboys en indianen die op de vlakten woonden, reeds tot de geschiedenis."
