Subjection of Women (1869)

In 1869 publiceerde Mill 'Subjection of Women', waarin hij de vrouwenrechten verdedigde. Zijn vrouw Harriet Taylor Mill, die in 1858 stierf, zou het boek geschreven hebben. Alhoewel er voor deze laatste bewering geen sluitend bewijs bestaat, is ze zeer aannemelijk. Vrouwen werden niet geacht een mening te hebben en nog minder om ze te publiceren.
