januari 1939: Rosenfeld geeft voordracht over atoomkracht aan univ. Princeton

The news about fission was carried to the New World by none other than

Niels Bohr, who sailed to America in January, 1939 in the company of his

son and the physicist Leon Rosenfeld. (The Fermis had preceded him by

just two weeks.) The evening they arrived in the US, Rosenfeld gave a talk

at Princeton, in which he described the new phenomenon, and caused an

absolute sensation. The effect was exciting, unexpected and, because of the

enormous energy released, had both military and non-military implications

which were very clear.
