The Conference of London prepared a further treaty (Treaty of the XVIII Articles) and the National Congress accepted it on the 9th of July 1831. But this time, William I rejected the Treaty and decided to re-conquer Belgium by force. On 2 August his army entered the country under the command of the Prince of Orange to start a ten-day campaign in Belgium. Leopold I called on France and Britain, who were supposed to guarantee the inviolability of Belgium. Soon after, Louis Philippe sent troops to protect Belgium from the Dutch invasion and the Dutch retreated from Belgian territory.
