King William I, however, continued to reject the Treaty until 14 March 1838. On 19 April 1839 a definite peace treaty was concluded between Belgium, the Netherlands and the major powers. On 8 June the final ratifications were exchanged. Belgium had lost, definitively this time, German-speaking Luxembourg and part of the territories of Limburg. It also had to pay the Netherlands a substantial annuity and toll right for navigation between Antwerp and the North Sea.
